ABOUT ME
The sounds of the Congas spread joy and love with the melodic rhythms that are projected from them through the professional, ‘YemiConga’. He keeps spreading the love of playing the African drum throughout the world with his exceptional skill in playing the Congas, Talking drum, Djembe and other percussive instruments.
Adeyemi Samuel Adebesin was born in Lagos, Nigerian. He is from the western part of Nigeria in Abeokuta Ogun State. He’s the only musical genius in his family with exception amongst five siblings. He attended primary and secondary school before he traveled to South Africa in September 2002. Since then he has studied Journalism and Creative writing with Intec College.
His musical career is as a natural river that flows. It started from the house where he plays with the dishes and cutleries after eating and in the church where he played the tambourines, Agogo, Samba drum, Alu mole (Yoruba cultural drum) to the congas and American drums set in the choir.
He has never looked back, but continued playing and learning. His professional career sprung up in South Africa where he began performing with World class Jazz pianist Artist, Don Laka, Guitarist Selaelo Selota, Song Bird Lira, Theo Kgosinkwe (leader singer from mafikizolo) and Zonke, Lulu, Vusi to mention but few.
SERVICES
He has also recorded with Penny, Olufemi Ogunkoya, Jazz Artist Kunle Ayo and Afro Pop big Band Malaika and many more.
He also recorded with Lebo M and Themba Mkize for the opening and closing ceremony of the Fifa Confederation cup that held in South Africa in June 2009.
YemiConga was also part of the entertainers that entertained the audience during the DLF: IPL CRICKET; Indian premier League cricket that took place in South Africa during April-May, 2009.
EVENTS/PERFORMANCES
Adeyemi whose trade name is ‘YemiConga’ is one of the finest percussionist and creative writer of our time. He has played in all major festivals including Jazz on the lake, Vodacom UGU Jazz festival with Don Laka, Africa day concert in 2007 with Lindy from Kenya and 2008 with Mapumba from Congo and has shared the stage in different Festivals with the likes of Oliver Mutukuzi, Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Ringo Madingozi, Eagle Eye cherry, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Y’ossue Ndour, Femi Kuti, Ismaelo etc
He has done workshops in institutions and graced the cultural day at St Mary’s college with excellent reputation. He launched is company ‘YemiConga Creative Entertainment’ in September 2008 for Entertainment, event and other general services
In 2007 the Home Affairs of South Africa gave him an Exceptional skill permit in playing percussion to reside in the country. With so much Passion and professionalism, YemiConga has been widely recognized and booked for world class events and performances. |
